A little trick to get yourself to make more interesting compositions, making things off center, or dividing them into zones. Very useful, and you probably came to it naturally because it looks good. There's something there in the math that the human brain likes in its art.
I'm not always actively thinking of it, but the good shots I take often fall under it.
