I think what I want is to have the product vendor audit their partners to ensure their customers' data is reasonably protected. Or disclose who exactly handles customer data at each step so the customer can audit it, or avoid them, on their own.

I personally would choose a different shipping/handling path for my Coinkite purchases after this obvious breach.
