"opinionated software" is the term I was looking for. I probably don't like it, I prefer things to be modular, each interchangeable part tied to the actual structure of the task it's handling.

I haven't really played with AI apart from my anthropic subscription. The problem is that I don't know where to start and my head is already spinning. I did set up a couple of VMs in the way I described above, and maybe the next step would be to optimize this kind of setup for multiple VMs and automate it.

The other thing that may be worth learning is how to run a local AI. I'm still under the impression that that's not really possible with my hardware, but maybe there is something tiny that runs on my laptop and that's a little bit useful ...
