The mineral deal for Greenland secures important access to resources needed to maintain the war machine. Greenland was necessary after Biden pulled the military out of Afghanistan and let it fall to the Taliban, which shut the door on mineral exploration there. Greenland is closer to home and less of a liability but it will still take a decade or more to have any extraction at scale.
