In America, hedge apple (around here its called bodarc or Osage Orange) was used prior to the invention of barbed wire fencing to create "horse high, bull strong, and hog tight" fencing.

I hope this skill/job comes back as AI takes more jobs. I'm trying to get the time to grow one over the course of 5-10years but my last two experiments in growing it from the seed around my property failed. 3rd times the charm!
