Most relays right now require auth. So to download them, every app is signing authenticating with that relay.

But even if that's done, every description of each individual message in your chats would also require a code. Amethyst loads 1000 DMs on start to build your lastest chats. Those would be 2000 codes (2 decryptions) that you would have to insert from the 2FA.
