i would say that authoritarianism comes from power-seeking individuals, rather than society as a whole (collectivism)

usually you see things like an oligarchy or dictatorship as an example of fascism most common examples of "communism" (in quotes because they fail to be actually communist) are seen as bad because of an individual (stalinism is a big example)

in general though, i'd agree that society should be based around individuals' rights, as is the case for something like anarcho-communism or even libertarianism (though traditional libertarianism falls apart once it devolves into corpo-feudalism)
