I’ve been fascinated with the idea that everything in our universe seems to sync up, and continues ticking along at the same time “framerate” through spacetime.
Anything that ticks along at a different rate would be marooned to the past or in the distant future, never to interact with us.
The curve traced by a point on a circle rotating over a flat surface is called a cycloid. Imagine painting a bright green dot on a bicycle wheel. Starting with the dot on the very bottom, move the bicycle forward until the green dot goes all the way up and back down to where you started. The curve traced by the bright green dot is a cycloid. If you painted another green dot on a spoke, it would also go around but never touch the bottom or top part, the curve it traces is called a curtate trochoid. Electromagnetic waves (like light) move in a cycloid-like trajectory, while matter moves as curtate trochoids (like dots on the wheel spokes).
Reality ticks along in discrete steps, and the size of these steps are unimaginably small because they are inversely proportional to the size our universe (the energy contained in it). It appears smooth for us massive observers. Because the “wheel” of reality isn’t perfectly smooth but instead is made of many little “teeth”, the surface on which it rides on also has teeth, just opposite in form. If it helps imagine trying to roll a square over a flat surface and watch the path traced by the corners. Add more sides to the square and you can see how it starts approaching a circle but never quite being one. The path traced by the corners of this polygon looks like very small bumps (think street bumps).
We are not in a circle however, but in a 4D hypher sphere, but keeping it as a circle helps our brains visualize what’s happening.
