I think once people blow up and become a "hero" they feel validated and start talking about things outside their expertise or feel the need to comment on controversial things. Its all ego. I believe this happens with Nobel Peace Prize winners so much they named it. Called Nobel disease or Nobelitis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_disease I think this can happen to anyone who gains some kind of recognition.
