The plant is called Mexican poppy (scientific name Argemone mexicana) because it is native to Mexico and belongs to the poppy family (Papaveraceae), characterized by its bright yellow flowers and latex-producing stems.
Highly Poisonous: All parts of the plant, especially the seeds, contain toxic alkaloids like sanguinarine and dihydrosanguinarine.
