I think it is important for developers to offensively point out, what weaknesses they know of. Free software is about transparency. So I would say whatever project, that clearly states, what blobs they use and explain it, are doing their best.

I would not blame noone for using binary blobs as long as it is clearly mentioned somewhere.

Like within the projects readme at least.
