There are no "advanced" or "primitive" societies. Only those who are well adapted to current conditions, and those that are not.

"Current conditions" includes ,among many things, the scale, density and complexity of the society's centers of production and consumption. Those have varied over time in both directions, and on those factors, modern industrial society has no precedents in archeology.

"Reset" is not a meaningful concept, but it is fair to say technologies and processes are lost as often as they are invented or rediscovered. Especially during periods of rapid change, howsoever caused. Experimental archeology is a thing, and actually quite fun - look it up, you might like it.
