On-chain, dust limits prevent super tiny amounts and rational users would shy back from tiny-ish amounts but when I want to zap somebody $200 - support his project - why not have a standard to do that on-chain? Sure, when fees surge again, it will crowd out even the $200 band but then it'll be the $2000 zaps that will make sense. Those are few now but not unheard of neither. If nostr reaches its potential of billions of users, it would be only likely to see zaps of much higher value, too every now and then. And when you really want to zap somebody $2000, LN won't let you. You might have the funds in your LN wallet but the other won't have the inbound capacity.
