It’s interesting… I’m friends with a hell of a lot of musicians on the Fediverse, most are super anticapitalist and have a level of distain for many types of financial transaction. Cooperative structures/non-corporate models are favoured. On the one hand it seems so primed for open source p2p money (which is the position I favour) but much of the language used by a list of bitcoiners is a huge red flag for them.
Now I know most here will disagree and I’m sure some reading this will have an extreme ‘fucking communists’ type reaction which is a shame, there’s some super cool, creative people out there… maybe the real direction of social media is a return to smaller communities similar to forum days?
I know in my own endeavours I’m expecting pushbacks from both sides, be that antifascist or anti communist and anything in between, to be honest I’m surprised I haven’t had too much issues to date, I was recently interviewed for a popular Fediverse channel and mentioned how I was really digging the Nostr protocol and the inclusion of p2p payments. I’m pretty sure no one there appreciates PayPal or anyone else taking a cut of their sales. I purposely did not mention bitcoin as many people reading that would immediately shut it down as a crypto scam. Obviously I have a different perspective whilst ironically both camps strongly believe crypto (more generally) is a scam.
That’s why I said about the cultural element being a valid one, I’m not making a judgement on anyone, I just understand the perspective. My hope is that more creative types and shitposters with different perspectives experiment with the protocol as I do believe it’s a powerful tool, especially as the internet is becoming less and less open and fun,
