i might like to read that book... bookmarked in case i forget to check until later. ishmael is an easy name to remember being a character in the bible.
from the summary that was generated, i do get the feeling that there is cognitive differences in some individuals, who can see through the nonsense no matter where it appears, not only in other cultures, but in one's own. it's very alienating. certainly didn't help in contributing to my getting to nearly 50 years and not having children or a wife.
probably to some degree a lot of people who are here on nostr are similar. also, it's a vulnerability, i will point out - being unable to fit in can see you spend a lot of time getting caught up in other people's bullshit, and especially caught in cultic situations, being tricked into loyalty in exchange for a sense of belonging. i broke that conditioning in january 2022 after noticing someone blatantly use NLP style sympathy tricks to induce a feeling of infatuation, which i fully investigated after the trickster in question fired me, because i am quite charming myself, and people do find it difficult to be nasty to me unless they are a piece of work themselves, it's a defense against having been in this situation so many times.
anyway, gonna check out that book. might be a nice one to add to my little stack of paper that i finally have (paper books, i mean).
