I think there is a definition of "asset" as something that has an "expectation of future [economic] benefit" associated with it. I kind of like this definition.
Applying it to Bitcoin, the current price in fiat isn't really relevant to whether its "worth owning," but the future price in fiat should be considered. For example, if the current price is low and the future price will be high, it's definitely worth owning.
There's a different question as to whether "price in fiat" is the most important metric here, if fiat itself is expected to lose value in the future. It may be better to use price in in terms of a bundle of goods, or CPI, or price in terms of real estate, forest land, etc.
