Religious people in Israel make up a small percentage of the population, but they are vocal, perhaps reaching 10% of the population. Maybe half of them agree with these absurdities, but 90% of the Israeli population disagrees and is horrified by religious abuses. In Lebanon, an Israeli soldier, a religious man, destroyed an image of Jesus Christ with a large sledgehammer; he was arrested the same day, expelled from the army, will never become a reservist and will lose all the benefits given to reservists, was indicted and is facing trial for what he did. This type of attitude is serious and criminal in Israel. In Brazil, a reverend from the Universal Church kicked an image of Mary, Mother of Jesus, and nothing happened to him. Here, respect for other people's religion is very important because, for us, there is a Jewish teaching that says: "Do not do to others what you would not want them to do to you," words of Rabbi Hillel, AC.
