I would recommend doing it as a group because then you'll for sure have someone to test devices with. Usually HAM radio clubs have crossover in LoRa mesh radio.

For devices you can build your own or get them premade. I like my T-Deck but I wish I had spent a bit more. I got the cheapest china crap and it took two months to get and the battery's a pos. So you get what you pay for 🤣
