After having owned many vehicles, my priorities for a regular-use vehicle are:

  1. Reliability (if it won't start and run, the rest doesn't matter)

  2. Safety

  3. Fuel economy

  4. Comfort

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by looking into reliability before seeing it. If you're talking about manufacturer reputation, then I'm not sure why that would be ignored to begin with. For example, I would never consider a Fiat (and not because of the name, they're known for being crappy).
