Read on the definition of scarcity in austrian economics. I’m not being utilitarian.
But I see where you’re coming from and even putting semantics aside, it still doesn’t work.
Your hyperbole would better describe someone literally hacking a developer’s laptop and siphoning unpublished code from there, when in fact they were downloading open source from GitHub.
Remember that these same principles also apply to movies, music, books etc.
The real hypocrisy here is that the state goes after individuals for downloading “copyrighted files” and don’t enforce their own made up rules when it comes to their close big tech friends.
