What kind of trees are they? Fir/Spruce/pine? I heard they should only be planted in fall, is that right?
They are most likely Douglas Fir. There's a chance they are Ponderosa Pine, but that's not as likely.
They sprouted last spring, but were in very shady, and high foot traffic, areas. As they mature, they'll be easier to ID.
I'm not sure why anyone would say they should only be transplanted in Fall. If you give them proper care, they could be transplanted at any time. If going in the ground, and you're in an area where the ground freezes, that's probably not a good time.
