Yes, I am from Texas and we incorporated in Texas, and the unusually high property taxes (and non-existent state income and corporate taxes) are why it is still one of the best places to live and do business, in the USA. Property taxes are the least regressive tax because everyone pays them (through higher rent or directly as tax), and the more property you occupy, the more you pay.

And it's incredibly uncomplicated, as the land is there and can simply be measured with a yardstick. You can't "hide" land from the tax man.
