Many years ago, my bank accounts were wiped clean. I was robbed so badly that I no longer knew how I would buy my little children a liter of milk. It was horrible, I really mean it.
The worst part was that the thief walked free. A web of offshore trust firms and shell companies protected him, and all I could do was work through court files every day—because I learned quickly that if I didn’t do it myself, nobody would.
For months, I was consumed by finding out what happened to my money. And then, after almost a year, I told myself: it has to be over. The money is gone.
I reminded myself that everything I had built and earned, I had achieved from zero—and that I could do it again.
Today, I’m doing much better. It didn’t bring the thief any luck, happiness, or prosperity. So if you belong to those who have lost their savings because of the recent events - my deepest sympathy for you. If you still know how to buy a liter of milk, you’re in an even better position than I was. Learn from it. Let go of what can’t be recovered. Start again.
(The thief ultimately served time in prison. 2 years ago—after 26 years!!!!—I finally received about half a percent of the stolen amount. 😏 I donated it. Life is good.)
