i have a limited personal experience living in an European society, but honestly i wouldn't put insincerity as a defining cultural feature here. civilizations have ups and downs, now that it's the downward cycle of the whole west, people here simply don't benefit from an open world no more, so they blame immigrants, they blame the cheap Chinese craps that easily outplayed their local manufacturers, so their companies lobby their governments to interfere the free markets competition. this is purely neutral human nature. humans are funny.
