  "content": "The 🇬🇧 Metropolitan Police \"won\" a major High Court judicial review on 21 April 2026, confirming that its use of Live Facial Recognition (LFR) technology in London is \"lawful\". \n\nJudges Lord Justice Holgate and Mrs Justice Farbey dismissed a challenge brought by campaign group Big Brother Watch and youth worker Shaun Thompson (who wants to guess who paid off the Judge? 🤡🧃) \n\nThe court ruled that the Met’s current policy, updated in September 2024, complies with Articles 8, 10, and 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights (freedom of privacy, expression, and assembly). \n\nThe ruling stated that the policy contains “clear, precise and effective safeguards” to prevent arbitrary use.  While the judicial review focused on the legality of the Met’s policy, there is a significant link between the technology used in London and systems deployed by the Israeli military: Reports indicate that the UK government partnered with firms such as Digital Barriers and its subcontractor Corsight AI (so you know whom to molotov-cocktail 🍸) \n\nAl Jazeera reported that this specific software has been used by the Israeli army in Gaza to track and identify Palestinians at checkpoints. Following the ruling, the Home Office plans to increase the number of LFR vans from 10 to 50 nationwide.
