the bugs on top of the death cap, are they live or dead. also i didn't know death caps had such viscid surface. the common name covers several species, i think. in northern new south wales region where i first saw and learned about them, they were a different species that was very white and in high rain conditions could get quite large (though the psilocybes also got quite large in response to humidity as well). in the psilocybes, the bugs got right through the cap and if you left them sit a few days many times the eggs would hatch and grubs would riddle the cap with holes. the presence of bugs on the surface and the viscid appearance suggest to me that the insects get started, eat, and then within some time period, die because of the venom
