Large-scale social change, when you're fighting network effects, is a hard thing... But it can work.

I see the same thing with the shift from suburban living to urbanism over the past ~20 years or so. Back in the 90's, urban downtowns were places you (maybe) visited in the Daylight hours to work, then quickly fled back to the suburbs at 5 pm. It's taken generational change, and there are still ongoing fights with NIMBYism, but millennials and younger generations have started to see the benefits of dense urban living.

Likewise, we're at a point in history where the internet has basically been "colonized" by The Platforms. Hopefully we don't need a "generational" timescale to change things, but it's going to be a gradual process....
