What Bitcoin Culture Looks Like https://blossom.primal.net/8b6cca29b4d8da3b2ff3552b04fb0f7683dabfb218f4d399fdfa185d99950118.mp4

If we really do care about Bitcoin culture, then we need to be honest about why it’s dying.

This "culture" had its origins from cypherpunk spaces, forums, IRC channels, mailing lists, pseudonymous blogs, and other virtual communities (https://nakamotoinstitute.org/library/virtual-communities/ that had enough sovereignty to actually cultivate a culture instead of having one algorithmically imposed on them.

Even when Bitcoin later spread onto Reddit and Twitter, the culture had already been formed elsewhere first. What we’re seeing now is that culture being dissolved inside engagement maximizing doomscroll goyslop machines specifically constructed to flatten attention spans and completely derail meaningful discourse. It deliberately keep users psychologically dependent, passive, and easily manipulated.

Yes, toxic Bitcoin maximalism used to function as a cultural immune system. Now much of “Bitcoin culture” is downstream from force fed recommendation algorithms owned by fiat fueled corporations fundamentally hostile to Bitcoin itself.

So it's a little hypocritical to claim that consensus is downstream from culture while allowing the primary spaces where that culture forms to be entirely owned and managed by hostile platform operators.

If Bitcoiners like nostr:nprofile1qqsggcc8dz9qnmq399n7kp2yu79fazxy3ag8ztpea4y3lu4klgqe46qpr4mhxue69uhksmm5wf5kw6r5dehhwtnwdaehgu339e3k7mf0qys8wumn8ghj7mrfvfex2un9d3shjtnpv9ex7mnfw4kkj6fwvdhk6tcf7h34j actually care about preserving Bitcoin culture, then they should be actively cultivating it in more neutral and sovereign spaces, specifically Nostr, where users can shape the environment instead of merely renting access to it.

Think about it. Bitcoin culture cannot thrive inside a hyper optimized algorithmic slop casino constantly hijacking attention, suppressing independent thought, and dissolving any strong form of assabiyya (https://www.britannica.com/topic/clan before it can mature. A culture built around sovereignty eventually has to care about sovereign communication too because that is the domain in which is lives and thrives.

Otherwise the culture just gets absorbed, pacified, and reshaped into something safe for the very systems Bitcoin was supposed to resist!
