I think anarcho-capitalism is essentially communism at a smaller scale, with the added hypothesis that it could possibly be stable. It begins with th...
“Could possibly be stable” here means stable between communities—assuming that “insurance” mechanisms and competing “defense agencies” would somehow produce order and peace among anarcho-capitalist societies. In this sense, it resembles a form of stateless communism, but with property ownership and money. It may, in some respects, be even more communal than communism itself, though imagined in a context of abundant land and resources, whereas classical communism operates under conditions of scarcity and population pressure.
Paradoxically, it can also become more “state-like” than communism, evolving into a system of quasi-governed enclaves—akin to pervasive homeowners associations—that individuals are expected to join. It does not adequately explain why such communities would admit outsiders, nor does it resolve the possibility that life within them could resemble a managed enclosure, controlled by a small group imposing arbitrary rules and extracting value. Under such conditions, it may produce a system less free than its alternatives.
At its core, it assumes a shared commitment to a non-aggression ethic, effectively disregarding the persistent realities of human nature—both the instinctual and the intellectual inclination toward rebellion. It presumes that these can be neutralized through a common ethical framework, an assumption that remains unsubstantiated.
