Democracy and freedom aren't the same thing at all though. Democracy is just formalised mob rule, so will always tend towards oppression of minority groups over time. unfortunately those that value freedom are the targeted minority now.

being a criminal for exceed government controls is fine by me. i already ignore their speed limits.

not sure anywhere freedom is increasing but there are plenty of places where you can still live free. ostensibly I have an authoritarian government where I live, but we live pretty remote so none of the rules get applied. just don't do anything stupid to draw attention and they'll ignore us. too few votes to matter
