Huh, that's kind of interesting.
A team wants to spend 40,540 #Monero to send a probe off to Alpha Centauri that would arrive in 75,000 years. Before I read the article, I was like, there's no way that any of our technology would ever last long enough, and we would need redundancies on top of redundancies on top of redundancies, and then it still wouldn't get there in an operating condition. After reading the article, it seems to me as though the point isn't to get it there in operating condition, but to send out a probe to knock off one of the filters of the Fermi Paradox about intelligent species not sending probes before going extinct.
