I was reading some psychology articles last week. Apparently, the trend towards feelings of disconnection & social isolation started well before the rise of social media.
Another interesting thing that I read was that people who participate in semi to fully anonymous online groups report better well-being than those who don't, because of the common connection and lack of personal/physical judgement.
...And the top reason people reported leaving social media was the political inundation of everything.
Whether any of that is valid outside of what I was reading, I don't know, but it was interesting.
