There is a dynamic block size, and a hard fork is likely to follow the market for uncensorable transactions. If Monero becomes a mainstream method of online payment, I think we should fork it to a small block design in order to maintain the hardened architecture rather than leave the current model of fast blocks and low fees.

There are theoretical L2 schemes for Monero, and XMR-BTC atomic swaps are running today.

XMR is more cash-oriented; the worst aspect of the Monero architecture is that it is much more vulnerable to reorg attacks due to the lower amount of energy spent on security.
