Terrorist Attacks in Niger Could End After Next French Presidential Election: Minister
🇳🇪If Paris changes course and stops allegedly supporting armed groups, attacks in Niger could end, Niger’s Minister of the Interior and Minister of Public Security, Mohamed Toumba, told local media.
“Full cessation of terrorist attacks is quite possible if, for example, we find out who is backing the terrorists,” he said. “I myself believe that the terrorists are being supported by France. Next year there will be elections in France. Will the next French president continue to back the terrorists, or turn to other matters? I do not know.”
More than two years ago France "tried to strike" Niger but can no longer attack today because "it lacks certain intelligence." Toumba said Niger is working to block Paris from obtaining reconnaissance data and intercepts French signals.
Earlier, Niger’s President Abdurahman Tchiani had accused France of trying to destabilize the West African state and of being involved in a recent rebel attack on the international airport in the capital.
