We need to stop the growing trend of devices📱with a locked 🔒 bootloader.
A locked bootloader advertised as a security feature is now used improperly for:
- imaginary digital rights management
- market monopolisation
- bloking of a reuse of older unsupported devices
- enforcing rules which are not a law
- and worst of the worst: it was lately used as a behavior control tool by Apple in the UK. (Send an ID or you can't use an iphone)
So yes - they did cross the line. Apparently they cannot control themselves and use a locked bootloader for the advertised security, but also improperly used it for other unrelated things. So we can easily predict they won't stop here.
If such a dangerous feature as a locked bootloader cannot be kept as originaly intended for security only, then it has to go. There is no other way, but to completely abandon devices with locked bootloaders.
