I'm not going to Crimea because it's extremely expensive there, the whole resort experience is uncomfortable, and there's post-Soviet decay everywhere. Under post-Soviet Ukrainian rule, everything there only kept falling apart, and under Russian rule, nothing has been restored. It's not because I'm afraid of power cuts, water shortages, fuel shortages, drone or missile attacks, or because I'm somehow poorly informed about any of that.
Crimea is a very expensive and uncomfortable place. However, if people are comfortable with rougher conditions and are ready for a somewhat more extreme kind of vacation, Crimea more than makes up for it with its beautiful nature, varied landscapes, and excellent sea. A bicycle, tents, campsites, private guesthouses… no alcohol, swimming in the sea, sunbathing on the beach. You probably won't find a better place in southern Russia.
If you really want to visit a truly shitty corner of Russia, go to Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. Crimea will seem like the Garden of Eden by comparison.
