Ubuntu on desktop was too buggy for me. Had to ditch it. But in fairness, I also ditched Debian for the reasons you pointed out. It has been really hard for me to break from the RHEL ecosystem for about the past five years. I think Debian would be better for me if they had an option like Fedora. Testing hardly ever worked and broke constantly. But something like Fedora N-1 would probably be pretty sweet.
