If society wasn't as degraded aa it is today through inflation and its downstream effects, many of these harmful addictions would likely lose their appeal.
I used to concern myself with what other people are doing or what they might do to improve. Less and less these days.

The computer metaphor rests on a materialistic belief that all thoughts and emotions can be understood at the atomic or chemical level, like a formula or a computer program.
This is far from the truth. Any neuroscientist with enough humility to admit it will tell you we know about as much about the human brain as we do about deep space or the bottom of the ocean.
The metaphor which fits my understanding the best is more of a receiver of consciousness rather than a producer or a calculator. Comparing the brain to a router or a modem might get you closer, but it's still just a metaphor. The materialistic approach to understanding anything breaks downn at the quantum level.

Years ago I was told that the big bitcoin conferences were not for bitcoiners anymore. I chose to go to Bit Block Boom for my first conference and then attend many smaller events across the globe. At this point I would say that BTC Prague is hands down the best large conference, but I had as much fun at many of the smaller ones.
I went to Nashville in 2024 and hosted a panel on bitcoin and psychedelics. Despite Trump's bumbling speech, there was still a good bit of signal at that conference and I had some great times with friends. The night time events were incredibly loud and fueled by drinking, which I found a bit surprising in comparison to other gatherings I've attended with bitcoiners.
In 2025 I was on the fence about attending Vegas, but last minute someone I have been trying to orange pill for years said they would go if I went and I wanted to see Ross speak; so I went. Vegas itself in many ways is the epitome of fiat. I find the strip incredibly entertaining, but ultimately a magnet for unhealthy behavior. The conference itself was very low signal, but I still saw many friends and spent time at the nostr booth, which was chill.
This year I decided not to go to Vegas; not because I hold a grudge, but simply because I don't enjoy it. The noise, lights, drinking, and mediocre food is not a draw for me; likewise most of the speakers. I know many people who are attending for various reasons and I know several great people who are involved in putting on the event.
Based on the trajectory I've witnessed with these conferences, it's unlikely I will be attending in the future. There's little room for cypherpunk freedom tech with FBI directors on stage a secret service doing security screening.
Some people can look at this and say it's an indication that bitcoin is being captured. To me this is just another stage in the adoption process. This is what the mainstream looks like and the trojan horse is currently being walked in the front gate. The conference serves it's purpoae, but in my opinion meetups will become increasingly more important as time goes on.
Less and less people will have the time, money, or interest to attend centralized events unless there is a business case for doing so. If you've never been to a meetup or hosted one, it might be worth considering. We will need local support for onboarding individuals and businesses when the time comes, and meeting other bitcoiners locally may prove to be a valuable network as fiat world continues to degrade.

I've started almost exclusively watching the Bitcoin price in gold to get a bigger picture of what's happening. I look at the fiat price only when I have to make conversions.

For certain whatever discomfort I am experiencing is a reflection of karmic charges that haven't been integrated yet. As soon as I fully let go and allow others to behave as they wish the situation will resolve itself. I've seen it over and over.
In the meantime I'll just watch the process and stay present.

Third paragraph I'm fully in agreement with. Regarding separating Bitcoin from fiat - I've had a recent breakthrough.
I still see the fiat price because much of my commerical reality demands the conversion, but otherwise I only measure bitcoin in gold. It's currently around 12.7oz per coin for example.
I can't fully explain why, but this has liberated me. Saylor has bene talking about BTC vs gold for many years so he helped me reach this point.

The mechanism for writing and distributing node implementations seems as though it could use a complete overhaul to avoid these fights entirely.
The best proposal I have seen so far revolves around isolating critical bitcoin consensus factors for uniformity and leaving the rest open for super users to experiment.

My guess is that this fight has more to do with how node implementations are managed than it does with the content of the argument.
In other words to do with people's desire to be in control. I could be reading this wrong and I'm honestly just interested in learning, but the level of immaturity I'm witnessing leads me to believe this is about ego, not code.
