One thing about my version of collapse that might help explain, is that I don't see collapse as a big armageddon event. It is something we are in right now. There will be ups and downs, and even stability for periods, but overall we will go down with what I know of fossil feedstock flows, possible alternative feedstocks, and breached planetary boundaries.
Heptapp should be done before the end of the year, with documentation and video presentations. I'd like to use some of my previous work and update with the heptapp ideas. The heptapp updates you see in my log here on Nostr are more a technical log and not professional (more for me and nerdy folks in similar areas). I need to simplify and explain in plain language; however, the concepts of knowledge graphs are difficult to express plainly, particularly with my added heptads. I must.
But, to answer your question, I believe resilience is found in culture, not technology, and emerges at time of crisis. Technology is certainly useful, but culture, and more specifically, ability to transcend paradigms, as Donella Meadows observed, is the leverage point to complex system change.
I'm not that excited about the matching algos run by massive data scrapes and GPU farms (AI as we currently label it). I do see that this has value in many areas, but it is not a direct, light form of knowledge that can be used without heavy corporate involvement and dense ecosystems of dependencies.
I'm focused on knowledge of systems, both the model and the specific operational instance of the systems. After Heptapp, I will look for small organizations that can't afford to outsource knowledge of their systems. It is much like when I started out selling PCs in the early 80s. At the time people were excited about not having to rely on large corporations for their knowledge. I believe there will be increasing opportunity for me to find places to seed that kind of organizational self-reliance again. But, it will take some major system failures before that can happen. Everybody wants to subscribe and outsource now. I admit, I'm not so sure we will get to that point while I'm still sharp, so what you sense is accurate. Seeding that kind of agency as part of emerging cultures in reaction to our situation and collapse events, though, is something I intend.

They are everywhere from 80s on, including one of my personal favorites from the 70s, the Intel 8048 (which is also in some PC keyboards from the 80s as well... and the Odyssey video game from the 70s... k... probably enough nerding out on that).
Funny aside... I have a first gen Econoline with zero microcontrollers. What do I do? I installed a period-looking digital dash insert for speed, oil pressure, temp, and turn signal dash indicator. I also put a vintage-looking radio in it that plays MP3s on an SD card. Now... the van will run just fine w/o the microcontroller(s) in the dash. The turn signals still use the old bimetal cans (does a Tesla use those cans? I've never seen a car that doesn't. I figure it was/is a DOT standard). I won't know how much gas I have in the tank, though. It is a trade-off. The speedometer broke, the other gauges were dubious, and getting a whole new set that was accurate made sense at the time. (I still doubt my decision sometimes.)

My Bluesky interactions are virtually zero. I thought you would enjoy the rare interaction I get. I don't even Follow Dobby anymore. We think much the same. Strangely, my sources diverge almost completely from his, but we arrived at almost the same exact place. He has a lot of Tainter in his papers. Anyway... the doomer shoe fits (But, seriously, I'm an optimist, and Dobby (Adrian) is one of the more optimistic in this particular social media area.)
Also, I think that my homebrew ship's log that cross-posts to Bluesky and Mastodon is one of the reasons people think I'm a bot. To reach Bluesky it needs to be <=300 characters. I don't do those posts for interactions, necessarily. It keeps me on task (which I am wildly diverging from with my Nostr indulgence today).

Now... my wife loves dogs, LOVES. She has forbidden me from talking about the mass of dogs vs. wild terrestrial mammals ever again. And she means it. One of the things embedded in the PNAS report [1] that is slightly easier to see, is that their are roughly as many domestic dogs by mass as all wild terrestrial mammals combined. Yup. Humans and their livestock are doing awesome!

It is odd to take an example model, go counter to how the author of the model used it, and say people are brainwashed for not using your version of the model from the perspective of your view of physics. It is Schrödinger's model. It worked a certain way to make a point. It wasn't his science, just illustrative.
My quantum mechanics kung fu is like pillow fighting: Small shit acts weird, and sometimes acts weird at a distance. Fast shit acts weird, too. Sometimes the universe appears to have resolution. We don't know for sure it doesn't, because we can only measure at a certain resolution. We know stuff is statistically there, and statistically flows continuously, but that small shit at a distance coupling is kind of spooky, and makes the resolution thing weirder. Then there is Stephen Wolfram's version (which appeals to me because graphs and small programs). I'm not a physicist though, nor do I wave that around to show I'm smart. It is interesting, sure, but I have no hill I'm fighting on. "Truth" will be different next year and the year after that.

I wrapped up Floppy PNG and all of the surrounding work, including many of these links on newtribal.org. I said what I needed to say there. In particular, I wrapped up my combined data and material flow methods and fit everything, including the small town model onto less than 1.44MB. All subcultures I've been part of have influenced me, including the folks on Nostr in general, so, yes, I've been influenced by you. And, yes, my perspective has shifted in the last year. Part of it, though, is a counter, the purity of the signal from the maximalists. I've struggled quite a bit with the gaslighting our culture does, and getting a pure signal to verify against my own beliefs and experience is quite useful. I feel free, now, less constrained.

The last 150 years are a blip on the timeline. The magic of oil distorted time like we were four levels down in Inception. We thought we came up with the idea, but oil was both the source and the time distortion tech of dreams within dreams, divorced from reality in our slumber. Make no mistake, though, life is electric. The web of life will go on with or without us. It is so beautiful it cannot be described by words, and anything meaningful to say about it would require the discipline of Laura Riding Jackson, but still... nobody would understand. You have to be in/of/for/with the web of life. It is.

I'm a boomer myself. I did not listen. I did try more than most, though. I did my cabin in the woods/Walden/My Side of the Mountain thing and explored many subcultures that I thought would provide a better view. Mostly, though, the view was fleeting when I received it. I didn't understand enough for it to take. Now... my parents were just on the other side of boomer. My dad liked small block chevy engines and lots of loot. My grandfather had toilet paper printed like currency. I asked him about it, and he told me about gold and fiat, but I had no idea why that mattered at the time. I didn't disbelieve... I just couldn't understand. I'm also aware of some boomers that took up the torch.

I could go on, but I figure the only way this will be understood is in a different culture, refactored after collapse events. There will *never* be a shortage of self-righteous looters that believe in their looting and form a justifying religion around it. That behavior goes back thousands of years, back to the original mythologies of our civilizations, which go back roughly to the first written word as origin. And this is just a blip as well, just one level up in inception, still skewed.
Finally, I have to say that I am in total glee about what I got to see in my lifetime, what I got to experience, what I got to build and participate in. I built nationwide networks with CI/CD tools I brewed up decades before that was a thing. I thought computers and data were a force for the good. I realized later they were many things, but mostly a way to handle scaling and complexity, but this also came with extreme negative externalities. My present work might possibly be useful to future cultures. I doubt it, but there is a chance of it, and that is enough. I try and minimize the negative externalities, and am aware of where those might be. I am an optimist at heart, really, and in love with the web of life and humans in general. Fuck I've had a great life.
The boring religious droning about our brilliant progress, but lacking the attention span or sophistication to dig deeper and pull at the threads that have always been there, preferring to blame this or that generation, but never ourselves for our predicament, though, is something I have a hard time turning away from. I should, though. I should turn away from that. It is nothing new. Those looters have always been here. They have been here for thousands of years. It is very human. I think we are wired this way. I do think we can overcome this. I am an optimist after all. This is something I'm working on.

Right after the 87 crash, a punk friend of mine and my wife and I drove a 72 Datsun wagon we got as a "runner" from the wrecking yard to get government cheese. On the way we played Circle Jerk's When the Shit Hits the Fan and sang along. "Five pound blocks of cheese. Bags of groceries!" We only got white rice w/ our cheese, but close enough. Our neighbors threw theirs out in a shared dumpster, but I pulled it out. So, one of my claims to fame is I actually dumpstered gov cheese. We had gov-cheese-bread all winter. It isn't like normal cheese bread. It toasts a plastic-like film over the top. I made a beverage called Hell Oi that was burnt barley, bread yeast and granulated sugar I brewed in plastic buckets and bottled in old 40oz bottles to go with. I think there are still caves filled with gov cheese. Side note... have you watched Penelope Spheeris' Decline I?
