fetch messes up offline-first. I can hack it with a recent Electron binary release and a handful of JS or manual browser config (dangerous to suggest!), but it is still nice to be pure default browser. Today I'm figuring out if I can bypass the fetch based on a timestamp value in local storage without messing with the overall performance on initial load.

I've long been aware that intellectually timid/lazy folks whine about semantic triples, and yet they overload keys with semantic information. If you do the hard work of the knowledge graph first, you can eventually arrive at concise and powerful key-value pairs and get both worlds.

For the Nostr crowd, the infrastructure problem is acknowledged. There is still a bit of fantasy in how it is addressed, but compared to a typical streaming service consumer, the understanding is much more sophisticated. This is also the Achilles heel of Bitcoin, in my mind, and why eventually culture will shepherd the infrastructure to centralized control for transactions. Like the WWW, the capability is there, but the instances end up matching cultural priorities. Trace the pragmatic financial motivations as we approach 21 million. Back to Nostr: The *crazy* thing is that the simple version of relays and simple signatures to validate events is exactly what we need, in my measure, for freedom from the infrastructure, but it is embedded in a culture where dev leaders all wannabe a typical social media app instead of a Scuttlebutt style "hey... in port. need water. what's the scuttlebutt today? what can I do to help." Along those lines I do appreciate Coracle more and more. Some of verbiricha/giorgio's work seems related and useful.

You can see both the explosion and shift in culture around 2012. This was when the WWW showed its capability for collective intelligence. At the same time opportunists were figuring out how to capture and hijack the wealth for themselves. The story is not over. The tech is free; the power shift is a harder problem. The infrastructure for collaboration is harder still, but unacknowledged.

My theory on heptad element placement is that I should sort the data I stick in the PNG so that the main text at the leaf nodes (markdown, html) is close to each other for versioning. So, I'll squash graph/subject/predicate into the index/key to sort on, with secondary sort on date for versioning as the object changes. I see the truth of what you are saying. I have no trouble with criticism, and when I do get it, it is great to have. With my technical stuff as I'm feeling my way through this, absolutely. I've received a few useful bits... thinking back, nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnsd3jkytn0dejj7qgewaehxw309ahx7um5wghxxmmydahxzen59e3k7mf0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qpqalptdev5srcw2hxg03567p4k6xs3lgj7f6545suc0rzp0xw98svs92tl66 gave me some feedback, as did nostr:nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kytcpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszgrhwden5te0dehhxarj9ejkjmn4dej85ampdeaxjeewwdcxzcm99uqzpssmrfkdkfrue0vn3h93dv26f73c95q0l4a394wthtgh9gxdf5tsegxvky , and I've used that. I'm human. I can get wadded up sometimes; however, if somebody takes the time to think about what I'm saying, actually reads what I wrote, and offers some criticism, that is gold. I wasn't very clear (or perhaps confused, or perhaps just wrong). Sharing as I learned, particularly with my weird take and requirements, made me very noisy. I alienate folks quickly. The academics see my flaws (although, TBF, a small percentage of those flaws are features that they can't see through their training). The regular folks see me as clankerish noise, which is quite counter-productive, since they are my audience. Academics don't need my work. They are quite comfortable.

Finally, before I STFU, my biggest mistake was sharing as I learned. I'm still learning. I wasn't a developer when I started. I had to figure that out. I knew nothing about knowledge graphs. I only knew Gane and Sarson DFDs were uniquely powerful yet simple. The absolute best guide is tracing simple programs to see where I'm failing in my understanding. Modern software ecosystems and tools hide the truth, particularly within an ecosystem of tools meant to deal with a giant knowledge graph: WWW.

One small example for those that think "instance" is easy. The model, the ontology, forms a nice map. But, we think in instances *or* model. So, if you have a journal app, an entry is an instance of the model where you have relations (tags and subcategories). The node of the subcategory in the model has instances of a journal entry. Most want to make it into a taxonomy, which does kind of work, but it messes up cognition of the model vs. instance. I don't want to do RDF/OWL. I want a shortcut.

A huge mistake I've made is trying to explain the design of knowledge graphs up front to non-academic folks. The difference between attributes, classes, relations, and instances is something that I am finally grasping after 7 years of immersion. Further, I use a foreign atomic particle of knowledge graphs that is a morphed semantic triple, so not even academics understand what I'm doing. It was bonkers and futile to try. It must be a working app first, something that is recognizable and useful.

The last (and only) time I was on that sidewalk was August of '85. I looked similar to you in stature. I had a really thin gold tone digintal watch. I was doing a presentation of a General Automation Pick OS system out of a traveling showroom in a Bluebird motorhome. Yup. I originated bringing an aging minicomputer OS to businesses that should have purchased IBM PCs. I should have paid attention to what they were doing at Arpanet, eh?

One thing about my version of collapse that might help explain, is that I don't see collapse as a big armageddon event. It is something we are in right now. There will be ups and downs, and even stability for periods, but overall we will go down with what I know of fossil feedstock flows, possible alternative feedstocks, and breached planetary boundaries. Heptapp should be done before the end of the year, with documentation and video presentations. I'd like to use some of my previous work and update with the heptapp ideas. The heptapp updates you see in my log here on Nostr are more a technical log and not professional (more for me and nerdy folks in similar areas). I need to simplify and explain in plain language; however, the concepts of knowledge graphs are difficult to express plainly, particularly with my added heptads. I must. But, to answer your question, I believe resilience is found in culture, not technology, and emerges at time of crisis. Technology is certainly useful, but culture, and more specifically, ability to transcend paradigms, as Donella Meadows observed, is the leverage point to complex system change. I'm not that excited about the matching algos run by massive data scrapes and GPU farms (AI as we currently label it). I do see that this has value in many areas, but it is not a direct, light form of knowledge that can be used without heavy corporate involvement and dense ecosystems of dependencies. I'm focused on knowledge of systems, both the model and the specific operational instance of the systems. After Heptapp, I will look for small organizations that can't afford to outsource knowledge of their systems. It is much like when I started out selling PCs in the early 80s. At the time people were excited about not having to rely on large corporations for their knowledge. I believe there will be increasing opportunity for me to find places to seed that kind of organizational self-reliance again. But, it will take some major system failures before that can happen. Everybody wants to subscribe and outsource now. I admit, I'm not so sure we will get to that point while I'm still sharp, so what you sense is accurate. Seeding that kind of agency as part of emerging cultures in reaction to our situation and collapse events, though, is something I intend.

As Y2K rolled over I remember wondering about all the cars with microcontrollers in them. They are everywhere from 80s on, including one of my personal favorites from the 70s, the Intel 8048 (which is also in some PC keyboards from the 80s as well... and the Odyssey video game from the 70s... k... probably enough nerding out on that). Funny aside... I have a first gen Econoline with zero microcontrollers. What do I do? I installed a period-looking digital dash insert for speed, oil pressure, temp, and turn signal dash indicator. I also put a vintage-looking radio in it that plays MP3s on an SD card. Now... the van will run just fine w/o the microcontroller(s) in the dash. The turn signals still use the old bimetal cans (does a Tesla use those cans? I've never seen a car that doesn't. I figure it was/is a DOT standard). I won't know how much gas I have in the tank, though. It is a trade-off. The speedometer broke, the other gauges were dubious, and getting a whole new set that was accurate made sense at the time. (I still doubt my decision sometimes.)

Funny you should mention the dog of all things. I walk every day, and the bit about the mass of dogs is always on my mind. Once I stopped and talked to some folks walking their dog about that. (Remember that Leary vid I shared about being an asshole? Yes... I am one.) I love dogs. The dogs (and babies) all reach for me. It drives the parents crazy. The baby (or dog) sees me a block away and act like *I'm the best fucking thing in the last mile*. I know, I know, I shouldn't take it personal, I'm not the only one, but I do anyway. Sometimes I'm wearing my "Tech won't save us" shirt with a skull and crossbones on it, the font in 5X7 old school computer font. It is a victory when I get slimed by a friendly nose. Now... my wife loves dogs, LOVES. She has forbidden me from talking about the mass of dogs vs. wild terrestrial mammals ever again. And she means it. The divorce papers would read, "mentioned the PNAS paper one more time". But, no, while I've had dogs most of my life (much of my youth was on a ranch with dogs and a barn full of wildish cats), I don't own one now. I'm allergic to them. That started a couple decades ago. It makes me sad.

Breen, in his book Tripping on Utopia outlines the reason and some of the cultural hacks. It is a great book. It dances around the darker implications during the cold war, but comes closer than many. I read his book when it came out. I was trying to find a link to follow up with the cultural hacks reference, and found this one. Many of these connections are new to me as I write this. This is the way, though, right? Pull on a thread and it leads to a web. Fuck, this world is extremely interesting. I can't believe I was able to be part of this particular slice. True, sometimes I wish I was part of a culture like Chauvet Cave, stable for thousands of years, with imbued nature magic. But, of course, that is a fantasy, and shares very little with reality. The people are fucked. (Although right now we truly are dominating. Helen is right, I was not interacting in good faith on that. Just having fun. Also, you can see Carlin is tipping a hat to the OP gist)

One of the most profound pop song lyrics for me is a line from the Cure's Other Voices: "Change your mind, you're always wrong." It was in the context of being invisible/alone in a large city. It is easy to forget that whatever my model of the world is, I'm always wrong. Iterate, and be less wrong.

Not bad... not bad. One interesting thing about cursive writing (for me) is the cognitive connection. True, I rarely write in cursive anymore, but it is interesting how it shifts your cognition about what you are writing. Not everything is about scale, yet this is a large part of why we lost much of this stuff (scale).

Getting a pure signal in an opposing subculture is priceless as you build a model of our situation. It is a useless goal to be comfortable in the subculture. Incrementally improve your model. Understand that it is always flawed. Be honest with yourself and others, but obtain signal strategically.

Not wrong, TBH. One thing I like about Nostr is you see a high percentage of posts from lesswrong.com. It isn't your normal social media crowd. But, still, there is an overriding subculture. I got the node editor to send messages back to the Deno web server over websockets. Deno will upgrade the socket and handle the HTTP and WS traffic separately without any extra modules. I need to make the graphs/domains proper by having a Graphology graph per domain.

My point is that humans are thriving just fine, us and our livestock. We are killing it! I have zero doubts about our success here. We have displaced almost all mammals. I've never eaten bugs, but there is no shortage of livestock. I eat meat. I don't care if you do or not. One of the things embedded in the PNAS report [1] that is slightly easier to see, is that their are roughly as many domestic dogs by mass as all wild terrestrial mammals combined. Yup. Humans and their livestock are doing awesome! [1] https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2204892120 https://blossom.primal.net/52711ec292eaf1810e8e87a722c71c19d540d51141ca4b3e82d3a944cd53747a.jpg
