Well it is to filter spam on the surface. But the pleb army now says it is everything from stoping the suitcoiners to fighting the Israel lobby and 20 things in between. It has become a catch all for anything any of them do not like in the BTC space. Which means they do not understand Bitcoin as money at all. Actual money is something anyone can do anything they want with and you can't do anything about it. I really do not know what to think about these folks now. I think many were well meaning but any that are still here are either trolls or on some level not mentally stable. Knots should have continued without 110 so people could filter arbitrary data off their nodes. Oh and that is why core put it in OP_RETURN in the first place, it makes it easy to filter. I and many of us that tried to explain this to your side once the 110 BS began ran Knots. It was a solid move but one the now clearly mentally ill Luke could not be content with. Here is how you could have mattered, if we has simply spread Knots as it was long enough, nodes could of won in the end. It would have taken time, no insluting people by calling them pedos and not lying to the plebs. Sadly no one will likely take up making a constantly updated version of Knots now. One that stays current with Core and just filters OP_RETURN out. Luked destroyed the best thing he ever created with lies, arrogance and flatly insanity. The rest like Kratter, Mechanic, etc. they KNEW what we were telling you was true THE ENTIRE TIME. You can't force change with nodes alone.
