Im not saying it's a fear of rejection, just that the allegation that men are "afraid of commitment" is bollocks. Men are "afraid" of that specific type of commitment but with very good reasons. Afraid isn't even the word I'd use there, it's usually used to describe a fear beyond rationality. Often when they meet the "right woman", there is no "fear of committment" whatsoever. And usually, the guy who is "afraid" to commit isn't actually afraid at all, he just doesn't want it with that particular woman, but her telling herself it's some fear he has is easier for her ego to hear than alternatives like that he doesn't like her that much/doesn't see her that way/she "wasted her time" trying to extract commitment from him. In other words, she gets to believe he didn't choose NOT to commit to her specifically, he was just blanket afraid of commitment. Very similar to how she thinks her ex is "avoidant". He's not avoidant, he just... wasn't that into you. But again, the easier story for her ego to hear is that he has a broken attachment style that made him avoid intimacy/commitment. That's why he ignored her texts. That's why he never prioritized her. The much more likely story is that she was on his roster and he was never particularly interested in her. Given that the majority of female attention is focused on a small subset of the male population, you can see how this would be statistically quite common. To be more specific, I hear this "fear of committment" phrase from women in two general circumstances: 1. when they tell a guy he is afraid of commitment as some kind of guilt trip/reverse psychology voodoo to make him say "oh no, I'm not afraid, see I'll prove it to you by committing" 2. When describing their exes and experiences with men who rejected them by never agreeing to commitment in the first place.

I usually hear the phrase "fear of committment" from women describing men. Men commit easily and readily. Most chosen a sport team at 8 years old and have let it control their emotional state for every Sunday for their entire lives. They haven't changed decoderant brands in 15 years. Men are hesitant to commit to women specifically because they routinely weaponize that commitment and do not take that commitment as seriously as men do. Source: divorce and break ups being overwhelmingly initiated by women. And lesbian relationships having the highest divorce rate. And gay men having the lowest. It's not a mystery why. Women aren't "afraid of commitment" because they don't take commitment seriously.

If your response to adversity and situations you don't like doesn't start with "how did I contribute to this", you will not grow and learn. It doesn't matter if it's "not your fault", asking whose at fault is the wrong question. You are a person, not a court. First ask yourself how you found yourself in this situation, how your actions contributed to it, if at all, and how you can avoid it in the future. After you've done all that, assign all the blame you want. Yes, this is for everything, the more extreme the situation the more important it is to ask that question so you can avoid it. Maybe the answer is there's nothing you could have done to avoid it. That's fine. But give yourself the opportunity to be honest and grow by asking it.

Web of trust would work if more clients implemented it, but afaict very few actually do. Same with PoW. Many clients let you add PoW to a note but don't automatically filter out non-PoW notes nor do they compute a "lifetime PoW" score for other users which would be much more useful than just the PoW from a single note.

Aah I see thank you for explaining that. I think we already face this risk with things like liquid, wrapped BTC, etc. but maybe it would feel different w drivechains because those would be part of the core L1, not added on top. I find it difficult to imagine a situation where BTC reverses the chain if coldcard, mt gox, etc didn't cause a reversal. The coordination problems alone probably prevent that kind of coordinated activity in the first place. Even obvious wins like segwit and Taproot took years of fighting to get through. I definitely need to read up more on specific failure scenarios and how they would be handled. Most of them I've looked at so far are "yes this is bad but it's similar to existing risks we take"

Well the current peg-out arbiters are centralized exchanges, DEXes, and other systems. The value flows from BTC to other places where you can use your money in other ways. None of those systems are contributing much if anything to BTCs security budget. In drivechains, they would. All of the market cap and fees from Ethereum, monero, and other BTC competitors could be contained in the BTC ecosystem. Instead we have the current situation where there's more BTC wrapped into Eth than there is on the lightning network. And lightning has no way to scale to 8 billion users because every channel requires a utxo. All while we fight over the "right" way to manage L1 instead of letting different options compete simultaneously and letting users choose.

Miners provide security for L1 and that's important. It's important the security budget stays high enough to incentivize them. Miners deciding on a fork is an OR choice, made on behalf of the users. Miners deciding to add a sidechain is an AND choice, users use the sidechains only if they want. If you never use the sidechains, BTC works exactly the way it always has for you.

Both. Coordination is so difficult, we have no good voting mechanism aside from "core merged the pr" (terrible), hashrate, and UASF (unpredictable, dangerous). And also nobody wants to "try something new" on a monetary network storing the world's savings. But eventually we have to try new things or BTC will be outcompeted by chains that do. We can say "let other chains experiment, BTC will take the best features at the finish line and integrate them into BTC" but that hasn't been true for like a decade. But we all agree someone should be able to sell their BTC to buy fiat, shit coins, or whatever else they want. Drivechains just build that into the protocol, you can shuttle your BTC at your own risk onto a sidechain and back. Experiments are needed, altcoins will exist, with drivechains they are still tied to BTC and still fund Bitcoins security budget. All the while giving the user the choice of where to park their coins and letting the market decide gradually one tx at a time instead of during a dramatic fork event.

There is a deep irony that the BIP-110 supporters who allegedly stood for decentralization, against big miners, etc have now decided to go against overwhelming consensus to start their own coin. Hashrate consensus, node count consensus, every form of consensus Bitcoin is based on said NO to BIP110. A UASF only works when the majority of important nodes signal they will fork, yet not a single major exchange or other provider even did that. Not coinbase, not kraken, not strike, not BTC pay Server, not Bisq, nobody. Most people opposed to BIP110, myself included, would have gone along with the new mechanics if BIP110 supporters had established hashrate dominance. But they didn't even come close. We need better processes for establishing consensus and experimentation. Core devs can't be the final word on anything. Drivechains help with this and are worth discussing. We are stronger together than apart. I hope big egos dont stop BIP110 supporters from seeing this. Bitcoin needs you too.

Currently, a minority cannot route around a majority of hashrate deciding anything. If the majority of hashrate wants to skip all blocks that contain a transaction they don't like, they can. Sure, your minority user can get their tx in a block but if the majority of miners conspire to not build on that block, that block becomes orphaned.

My understanding is that if you want to move between bitcoins L1 and drivechains, miners have to sign off on that. Similar to how miners currently have to choose to include your transaction in a block. But my understanding is fairly limited. When I have taken the time to really sit down and read and reason through the proposal, all of it seems reasonable to me. My only real objection is that at some point some of these other drivechains may break off from Bitcoins side chain (if they become more profitable to mine than bitcoins original chain). But we already face that cost and pay it via people leaving Bitcoin for other chains that are more capable. At least drivechains peg them to Bitcoin mining and incentivize continued production of Bitcoin blocks. AND keep decision making power with miners, not some unelected federation like Bitcoin liquid or various l2 proposals.

We've all been joking about the BIP110 fork because it distracts us from eCash and drive chains, a fork that points out actual, significant problems with Bitcoin. That's uncomfortable. Drivechains offer workable solutions where Bitcoin doesn't continue to lose market share to chains that enable you to do more with your money, and do it easier. Lightning is not the final answer. Spark isn't either. "Unilateral exit" is not enough if there's not even space for even a small portion of humanity to unilaterally exit at once. Let's be real, if the globe adopts Bitcoin and this is all we have, only banks and other large actors will be able to afford an on-chain transaction. I'm not saying I support the eCash fork, I'm saying we absolutely need to be having that discussion and drive chains are closest I've seen to a proper solution to the L1 scaling issues. #bitcoin #drivechain #bip110

Came across an interesting #bitcoin project today: whales.exchange. Its a decentralized submarine swap portal. Many people use boltz to swap lightning to on chain and vice versa. While boltz is non-custodial, it is centralized. Electrum wallet introduced decentralized swaps (any wallet user can offer swaps via nostr). This site enables anybody, not just electrum wallet users, to be able to use those swaps. In addition to being decentralized, these swaps are often cheaper than boltz.

😡 Leftists hate this one simple fact: America is the biggest, longest running, most effective anti-colonialization project in human history. 🗽 In 1776, American revolutionaries not only ensured freedom for their families for generations to come by kicking out their colonial overlords, they exported their revolution globally. Today, only 50% of people live under a dictatorship, an unthinkably large number only a few hundred years ago. The arsenal of and the birthplace of modern democracy. Happy 250th birthday America 🇺🇸.

40 years ago today, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster happened (USSR, now Ukraine). The cleanup and disaster mitigation involved exposing HALF A MILLION people to radiation, potentially many more. These people, called liquidators, risked their lives to protect us all, and many of them paid the ultimate price either in the immediate aftermath or years down the line due to increased rates of cancer and other ailments. Many never received their promised pensions and healthcare after the fall of the Soviet Union since the government guaranteeing such benefits no longer existed. There is a memorial to the liquidators pictured below with has a simple inscription: "To those who saved the world". A potent example of our power and the responsibility that comes with it. We stand on the shoulders of giants who risked everything to ensure a future for humanity. An opportunity for us to do better and go farther than they did. And a reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together. We only get one earth. https://npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy.blossom.band/f3eeea5eb4bb0ff781d3c3b907ed6b50f83252cdc8888b4fbb4e3264c29b652e.jpg https://npub1hce578d83hff5c594p2pysunkhw24k3z7lj5czkd2vafs04y6v8q9ayrcy.blossom.band/de6db427f71480633858beea2455443f928ef919702e14202d5cded2aba0b122.jpg If this topic is of interest to you, you can learn about the liquidators in the USSR and Japan in this very well done video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eF-KSUfnbhg #onthisday #ussr #ukraine #nuclear #history
