Is it paranoid for me to move most of my "spending" sats from my Phoenix Lightning wallet to my Electrum on-chain wallet? It's not just that I worry that Lightning is gonna get hacked next, but that I worry that the swaps will get taken offline in a panic, and I'll end up stuck in Lightning. This doesn't really seem rational, as I'd probably have to move them back onto Lightning to spend them, but oh well. In other news, added a silent payment wallet to my payment targets, which doesn't help much because hardly any Bitcoin wallets support silent payments. 🤣 I'm tired, boss.

The Nostr market is completely saturated with kind 1 clients. 1. There is no room for additional clients in this tiny market. People are tired of kind 1 clients. Almost as tired as they are of the DM circus. 2. Everyone already has one and people are loathe to switch to a different one. 3. There's hardly any high-signal content in the kind 1 feed, so it's basically a forum for people to meet up and chat and forums don't need any fancy functionality. 4. Groups and communities haven't really taken off because Nostr is so small that it's already a community. 5. The main differential is if your client lets you see kind 1 and kind 1111 events, or only kind 1. People who can only see kind 1 think everything is much quieter than it is, as they can't see most of the responses, but they don't know that. 6. Kind 1 remains important, but is quickly losing ground.

All of my motivation to post content is non-monetary. Almost nobody looks at any of it, but I keep posting it. Almost nobody uses my clients, but I keep building them. I was making elaborate web pages in the 90s, when there were like 10 people on the Internet and you had to handroll the HTML tags and it was fun. I've always just done stuff, for the sake of doing it. Like I sometimes see that a park is dirty and I just come back with some rubber gloves and trash bags and start cleaning it up because I don't want it to be dirty anymore, and then it is clean and I am happy about it. Sometimes I start a clean up project that meets as a group, and cleans that park up, regularly, and then it's always clean and I am always happy about it. I am grateful when people give me money because it helps me finance all of the infrastructure costs, but I am genuinely surprised that they ever do, which is why I never think to apply for grants. Software grants filter for people who are used to getting money for building software or think that they should be getting money for building software, the same way that beauty pageants filter for girls who are used to being told that they are beautiful or who think that someone should be telling them they are beautiful. Nobody else knows if they qualify, so they just sit in the audience and clap, when someone official-looking says, "Please clap." But maybe that is just me.

Hardware wallets and self-hosted Lightning have been catastrophic for the adoption of Bitcoin as currency. I think this is what we're finding out. You don't spend money you've put on a hardware wallet, and the "feel" of using an ETF mimics a hardware wallet. Self-hosted Lightning nodes are constantly offline, erroring out, have channels down, etc. Only the professionally managed ones (including Phoenix) actually work when you need them to work. And people are averse to moving their Bitcoin onto Lightning, as it's a pain to bring it back on-chain, and they get eaten up by fees. Bitcoin's practical availability mimics a CD (certificate of deposit). I.e., it's purposefully put in places that make it difficult to spend. You need advanced notice and preparation to get it moving, and even then I'm often standing there, watching them fiddle around on their laptop or cell phone like, "Oh, give me a minute; looks like my server is facing a DDoS... erm... oof, kinda doesn't work right now... Don't be hatin, okay, but do you take cash?" On-chain Bitcoin should theoretically be easier, but the way people store on-chain Bitcoin -- locked into a treasure chest and dug into the roots of the tree in the backyard -- it's even less available than Lightning.

My daughter has finally convinced me to ditch all of the bands and bobby pins and claws, and switch to French pins, combs, and hair sticks. This stuff is so much more comfortable and simple, and no more of the chronic ponytail. And it holds so much better and creates no pressure points, which I wasn't expecting. And if I take my hair down, I no longer end up with a bunch of little plastic and metal bits crowded into the bottom of my purse. Everyone who owns one thing is also choosing to not-own something else. In regards to AI, I see more and more people getting so bogged down in purchasing and maintaining all of their models and infra, that they have effectively ceased to use them for productive purposes. They own the models primarily for the sake of owning them, and for talking about them with their friends.
