Honestly, I’m a bit confused by the “Nostr is for everyone ( normies included) / we welcome normies” narrative sometimes. Because in practice, it doesn’t really feel built for that. And when someone points that out, the response is often “run your own relay” or similar.
But most normal users don’t want to run infrastructure, manage relays, or deal with technical setup for basic social use. They just want something that works out of the box. So I’m trying to understand what that narrative actually means in reality. Is Nostr really aiming for mainstream users, or is it mainly a space for developers and more technical users? To me, those two goals feel quite different, and I’m just trying to make sense of the gap between the messaging and the actual user experience.

I'm a normie user. I want most of this already figured out for me. If both Nostr and Pubky want to increase their chances in the market, they eventually have to adapt to regular users just like legacy social media did.
Relays need to be reliable and easy for people to trust and join. Otherwise, the only users you'll end up with are developers, people running their own relays, or aspiring developers and vibecoders. Not everyone wants to be that person.
Some people simply want to enjoy the freedom of speech that these platforms offer... I actually don't mind paid relays like Nostr Wine... paying isn't the issue. The issue for me is trust. I want to know who is behind the service that holds my data. Many relay operators stay anonymous, and for someone like me, who naturally doesn't trust people easily, that makes it difficult to pay for or rely on them...
if Pubky eventually asked for monthly support, I'd probably pay it gladly, because over time I've gotten to know John's face, his opinions, and I've interacted with the person responsible for the protocol... personally, I find that much more reassuring than trusting dozens of anonymous relay operators whose rules, decisions, and moderation policies can change at any time.

What is the practical difference between John being the person ultimately responsible for Pubky and hundreds of relay operators each acting as the boss of their own relay? At least with John, everyone knows who is in charge and what the rules are. With relays, every operator can decide what to keep, what to delete, or who to exclude based on their own views, policies, or simply how they feel that day.
I'm not saying one model is objectively better than the other... I'm just not convinced that having hundreds of small gatekeepers is automatically superior to having one visible person responsible for the platform... from a social media perspective, I personally prefer the more consistent experience.

And honestly... i'm personally more comfortable with John being responsible for the platform than having my content depend on dozens of relay operators who can each decide whatever they want depending on the mood of the day. Small tyrants can exist in decentralized systems too... Maybe that's simply the difference in priorities between us.

Honestly, I'm interested in what this is all about... Is it just unnecessary poking at each other, or can either side actually prove their points? Every time John says something about Pubky or its quality, a lot of people in the Nostr community seem to immediately jump to sarcasm and the whole "CEO" thing. At the same time, many of those people haven't even tried Pubky themselves.
I get the joking part of it... I joke around a lot too... but I'd rather see both sides prove their claims than just trade memes and labels.
The CEO argument, personally, doesn't tell me much. And now relay users are being called "members" in some places... so what's really the difference? These labels don't mean much to me compared to how the products actually work and what they offer. What I'm personally interested in is the social side of these platforms... and from a user perspective, I find Pubky much better structured, more coherent, and honestly more reliable. Nostr feels scrambled and unorganised... it's simply my experience as a user.
So instead of just throwing "CEO" jokes back and forth... I'd rather hear concrete arguments and see both sides demonstrate why their approach is better.

But for me it’s not really the deciding factor in how I look at these systems.
With Bitcoin, Nostr, Pubky… I don’t see it as a simple centralized vs decentralized label. Even without a CEO, there are still influence layers, incentives, and real-world dependencies that shape how things evolve.
So I try to look more at structure and user experience rather than just the governance label…
And from that angle, I personally find Pubky feels more organized and smoother for social use cases, while Nostr feels more open but also more fragmented.
Not saying one is right or wrong… just how I currently see the trade-offs.

The irony is that racists love to talk about human differences while completely ignoring human history. Our ancestors survived bottlenecks, climate disasters, migrations, and the Last Glacial Maximum. We all descend from a relatively small number of human populations that survived and expanded. We are one species: humans.
The idea that one group of humans is inherently superior to another isn't intelligence. It's ignorance wearing confidence as a disguise.
What I find fascinating is that racism often presents itself as strength when it is actually a failure of reasoning. It reduces the complexity of humanity to simplistic tribal thinking. It is intellectually lazy, historically uninformed, and scientifically indefensible.
Racists are not guardians of civilization; they are relics of a more primitive way of thinking. Humanity moves forward when we expand our understanding, not when we shrink it.
One day, I believe racism will be remembered the same way we remember many other failed ideas from our past: as a monument to ignorance and a lesson in what happens when fear is allowed to masquerade as wisdom.
