Sai cosa sarebbe interessante su Nostr?
Riprendere il sistema che aveva il social network chiamato FriendFeed.
FriendFeed era un social network nato nel 2007 che aggregava in un unico flusso gli aggiornamenti provenienti da molti servizi online (blog, Flickr, Twitter, YouTube, ecc.).
Era speciale perché introdusse molto presto idee che oggi sembrano normali: like, commenti in tempo reale, feed unificato e conversazioni annidate. Inoltre, ogni nuovo commento faceva risalire il post in cima al feed, rendendo immediatamente visibili le discussioni più attive: un meccanismo che attirava naturalmente l'attenzione sui contenuti più commentati e creava una homepage viva, in continuo movimento.
Per molti utenti esperti fu il luogo dove si sperimentò il futuro dei social prima che queste funzioni venissero adottate su larga scala. Nel 2009 fu acquistato da Facebook, e molte delle sue innovazioni finirono per influenzare i social network moderni.
Al momento non esiste nulla del genere su Nostr.

When a client tries to be everything to everyone, it often ends up not really excelling at anything.
In the Nostr world, this risk is even more evident.
A client that wants to be a social network, wallet, marketplace, chat, blog, streaming service, identity manager and a thousand other things all at once can become:
- complex to understand
- cumbersome to use
- difficult to maintain
- confusing in its purpose.
Users usually arrive with a specific need: to read notes, chat, manage zaps, write articles, follow people.
If, to do something simple, they have to navigate through ten features they’ll never use, they often give up.
That’s why many of the most popular products have a clear identity: they do a few things, but they do them well.
In an open ecosystem like Nostr, specialisation is often more valuable than a pile of features, because protocols and standards allow different tools to work together without any one of them having to do everything.

Many artists came to Nostr and left.
I'm still here.
Not because I'm stronger or more consistent.
It's something simpler and more human: I found my own way of moving with the current.
Freedom without structure, without immediate returns, without clear feedback for many, it becomes silence.
And silence, if you mistake it for emptiness, pushes you away.
I know that silence.
It's the same one I find in front of a canvas when the mark won't come, when the painting gives nothing back.
I don't read it as failure.
I read it as space.
Nostr doesn't reward speed.
It doesn't reward vanity, except in brief flashes.
It rewards a quiet, almost agricultural resistance: sowing without knowing if it will rain.
Many come looking for a mirror.
I've instead accepted that, in here, the mirror is sometimes absent but this doesn't make what I do any less real.

The result?
1,000 users spread across 100 different places experience a network that feels empty.
New users don't want to learn about relays, NIPs, and client differences.
They want to join, find people, and start interacting.
Instead of building more islands, let's build a shared "Nostr Core Experience":
• A minimum interoperability standard for clients, communities, chats, marketplaces, and streaming apps
• Identity, profiles, contacts, notifications, and messages available everywhere
• Shared discovery of people, content, and communities
• A unified onboarding experience
• Public certification for projects that follow these standards
The next breakthrough for Nostr isn't a new protocol.
It's making one network feel like one network.
Otherwise, we risk building the freest network in the world... while making it harder and harder for people to find each other.

But slim smartphones aren’t actually any better than thicker ones; in fact, they’re often slippery, so you have to use a rubber case to protect the edges and stop it from slipping.
What’s more, a built-in battery means you have to replace the whole smartphone frequently, rather than just the battery.
Smartphones are getting bigger and bigger, with ever-higher refresh rates, and heavier and heavier if you want the battery to last.
One rip-off after another, and we consumers have to replace it every year or two.
What a load of rubbish.
I want a decent smartphone again, with a replaceable battery, under 6 inches, with a non-slip, shock-resistant body without having to use huge cases, with a headphone jack, and with an OS that doesn’t pry into my business and that improves over time instead of getting worse with every update.
And above all, at reasonable prices without having to sell a kidney.

Sorry Odell, I understand the concern about growth and retention, but I don't think Nostr should be judged by the same metrics as traditional social media.
Many people will come to Nostr out of curiosity and then leave. That's normal. They're used to platforms that optimize every detail to keep users engaged, shape behavior, and maximize time spent online.
Those who are genuinely looking for freedom, ownership of their identity, censorship resistance, and an open protocol are more likely to stay, even when the experience isn't perfect.
Nostr doesn't need to appeal to everyone. Not everyone is looking for the same thing. Some people prioritize convenience and established networks; others are willing to accept a bit more friction in exchange for greater sovereignty and independence.
If thousands of users have come and gone, that doesn't necessarily mean Nostr has failed. It means they discovered what it offers and decided it wasn't what they were looking for. Those who value digital freedom will remain, contribute, and help build something different.
And that's okay.
