They just get off on everything being complicated because that is more impressive to other developers. Why write 5 lines of code when you could write 104710 lines, KWIM?

Don't forget that the CLI is separate and allows you to AUTH onto the git server and *sign the commits with your Nostr key*.
Also remember that *you actually only need normal Nostr relays and the normal git CLI to do any of this stuff*. There is no extra server or separate data store. The clients are just for convenience and UX.

I will just pull everyone's kind 10002, deduplicate the list (most people have the same ones), remove localhost and filter and aggr and etc., remove anything unresponsive, and anything with write-restrictions, pad the list from a curated set, and then slowly rotate through them, so that I don't get rate-limited.

I've been doing it algorithmically, with a three-tries-you're-out-for-this-session method. Which means that it's slowish for about 5 minutes and then speeds up, as it puts those relays in timeout.
I don't think I can remove that, as it also covers the common habit of having relays in your list that you can't actually write to, and cases where relays are down temporarily for maintenance.
Do you have a cronjob to update the liveliness events, or how does it work?
