Have begun hourly polling some curated relays for publications. Those publications will be added to our canonical database and be reachable over our RESTful API and clients and over the websocket at wss://mercury-relay.imwald.eu. The database remains read-only. Yes, it's another fun-with-distributed-data-storage day.

Okay, some full-text search indexes are still building, but the **canonical wiki and publication data** from Wikipedia, Open Library, and Project Gutenberg should be online again, have correct and complete tags, and be easy to filter. The dataset is on wss://mercury-relay.imwald.eu/relay/ and available over the REST API on https://mercury-relay.imwald.eu/ I updated https://jumble.imwald.eu/library to take advantage of the new filters. Performance is much better, now. I'll keep juicing that up, and then I'll move the update onto an #Alexandria web client rework. It's taken months to get to this point, but we made it.

I'm currently completely republishing all of the: * Project Gutenberg books (kind 30040 publications with 30041 sections), * Open Library cards (kind 30040 with no sections), * and Wikipedia pages (kind 30818 Asciidoc). Already spot-tested and the new tags and tables give relays much better performance. The Mercury relay will be offline for a few more hours due to the import and reindexing, but then it should be zoom, zoom, zoom. TheCitadel relay is also uploading them, and some other relays, and I will be broadcasting. Took me forever to get the parsers right and setup a monthly pipeline to deliver the deltas from the canonical dumps. If monthly goes smoothly, I can switch to weely.

It builds better than I can and it verifies better than I can, but I am still the main validator. There's maybe too much space between what I want it to finally do, as a feature, and how exactly I can describe it. Always end up with a bit of ping-pong, at the end, that I don't have with human devs because they share some intuitive understanding of what I would expect.

Yes, but it sometimes glosses over failures. I have to point it out and then it's like, Oh, right, that isn't how we originally described it. Or I give it 15 points and it does 1-4, 6-9, 10-15. I could run one, yeah. More than one would be a bad idea, as it would recentralize the shards.

nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 I'm adding support for this and will launch a coordinator. I was about to add a #cordn coordinator, so I'll just do both at once. I already support bunker, but my app is specialized in flaky Internet connections, so what I need to do is add queued signing to the queued publishing, since the signers are all online. Shouldn't be too bad.

They did it so that they could read the messages on their server. I have always assumed that they work for Russia or France, or something, as it just reeks of something a nation-state would like. Telegram is encrypted to-and-from their server, but not E2E. Even the explicit E2E secret chats aren't TLS, they use their own weird protocol. No, this has not been improved. Signal or other MLS-style messengers are much better.

My general impression is that funding and investment for Bitcoin and Nostr is overly reliant on personal affiliation and geographic colocation. So, "people we know, from around here, who are fun to party with and emit good vibes". A _Trust me, bro._ culture, rather than serious business processes, regular internal and external audits led by competent, constructively-adversarial people, quality management, etc. There is also a difference between "this person is critical and annoying, but highly-competent and always presents sound arguments" and "this person is arrogant and dismissive of grounded critique". For some strange reason, the first is seen as bad and the second is seen as good. That is precisely backward. It's a start-up culture, but these aren't video games, they're people's vaults and social histories. These are secure information systems and should be handled with more care.

I think anyone suing Cold Card has a good case, even merely based on the audits that have already been performed. There is nothing at all normal about how this stuff was built. Outrageous, irresponsible behavior and open contempt for the customers, IMO. Their best bet is probably to claim that they were all taking hallucinogenic drugs while working; _it is that bad_. I thought this would be true at the beginning, and was trying to be generous, as anyone can have a bug. But the software craftsmanship was incompetent on all levels: * Starting from the management decision to get off open-source for the firmware, * Using MicroPython wrapping to facilitate shitcoinery, which raised the complexity and added the faulty library to the stack, * Falling back on a critical path, instead of throwing an error and breaking, * And what has got to be encryption test cases so bad that they're going to end up in computer science textbooks under "What not to do." I've been in software development since 1998 and I have **never ever** seen such poor software craftsmanship. Not industry-standard practice and arguably criminally negligible. If we did this in automotive, bioinformatics, or heavy industry, they would sue us into the ground and arrest the CEO.
