Exactly. Right now it’s mainly builders boosting builders (which is an awesome attitude, and a big part of why I love Nostr), plus a few others.
I have no idea how many artists are in a similar situation, but most of the artists I know on legacy platforms, who own their material and already receive a decent amount of streams (like me, or far more), will be incredibly difficult to convince to consider the v4v space unless they see more direct rewards than “just” independence.
There’s a pretty steep barrier to entry if they have to learn everything we’re discussing right now, like self-hosting and running nodes. Most people don’t have that kind of time to spare unless they see fairly immediate benefits.
I agree that custodial wallets are a temporary solution, but I don’t feel comfortable if their websites use terms like “identity verification” or “KYC.” That's the exact mindset of the old world.
However, I firmly believe we’ll figure it out by working together and sharing ideas.
