Local primary care system is way more fucked than it was. I've spent way too much time on this and tokens on my clanker.

Basically a local hospital system collapsed (heavily subsidized by the state btw) and left a massive vacuum of primary care that hasn't been filled. Think over 500k people affected. This has been a few years now. To the point where all doctors offices small and big that have a public phone number are booked YEARS in advance. This is within about a 40 mile radius in my network btw. Even the big city is booked (which is a shit show).

I just got off the phone with another lady and she didn't even hesitate when she said "Oh the next appointment I have is September X 2027." In a network with over 100 family doctors.

My current (terrible) PCP can't even fit me in for basic stuff, they refer you to urgent care or the emergency room. Which should be reserved for, you know, emergencies... I'm just glad I haven't needed anything like ongoing medication, or a chronic condition, or an injury I guess. Which by the way you're stuck in these lobbies and offices for hours on end.

~4 years ago it wasn't an issue at all. You just called a random local office and they had you in next week, no questions. One time I just walked in off the street and they happened to have an available appointment that day.
