From my experience, the worth of comic books is typically tethered to the writer, artist, storyline and/or characters' first time appearance.

Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns orignal comics continuously gain value, even if they can be read online or consumed by watching the animated movies. Miller's Batman Year One is the same.

It's almost as if a storyline is being replicated across different mediums, such as movies (animated or live action), audiobook, novel, digital print, etc, the original gains more value.
