Fun computer hardware fact. System memory (DRAM) consumes more power than you'd expect. It's gotten way better over the years thankfully. On some machines I had, doubling the number DDR3 modules could consume 120 watts more power. The more memory in use by the software, the more power it consumes for refreshing (and scrubbing on enterprise systems). Depending on the system were talking a couple watts to a few 10s of watts.

So remember devs, keep memory consumption down and help users save money on their electric bill.
